Daisy Ridley was chosen as this year’s Choice Movie Breakout Star at the 2016 Teen Choice Awards. The 24-year-old, who was awarded the gong for her role as Ray in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, gave a shout-out to her co-star John Boyega, who was also up for the same honor, when she gave her acceptance speech at the awards show in Inglewood, California on Sunday.
‘It feels incredible to be in this category, with amazing people, especially my boy John!’, Daisy told the audience with her new surfboard in hand.
‘And after all the incredible people we just saw on stage, it feels especially important to be apart of a film that represents diversity in such a positive way.’
Among those she thanked by name included director J.J. Abrams. ‘So, thank you J.J. and Lowry and Michael for creating this character, and Disney, and everyone for letting me be Ray.’
Daisy, who took home one out of the three gongs she was nominated for that evening, sparkled in a silver sequin mini dress as she accepted the award.
