Daisy started her career in BBC’s Casualty (2013), where she appeared as Fran Bedingfield in s27e28 And the Walls Come Tumbling Down. In April 2014, Disney and Lucasfilm confirmed on the official Star Wars website that Daisy Ridley will be joining the likes of Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill as Rey in the upcoming film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens (2015). A few weeks later Deadline confirmed Ridley’s character will feature in both sequels to next December’s installment. Rumors were that both Ridley and John Boyega would be dual protagonists in Episode VII. One could guess is that Ridley could be playing the daughter of Han Solo and Princess Leia (that’s her sitting between Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher in the cast photo) or a new character unrelated to the famous Skywalker family.
Daisy opened a Twitter account following the Star Wars casting news, but deleted the account on September 27th 2014, with a final Tweet “@ridley_daisy: happy Saturday folks. I am bowing out of twitter. I really appreciate all the support thus far and hope you LOVE the film!” You can still view parts of it via web.archive.org This mostly likely has something to do with the very strict non-disclosure agreement JJ Abrams set in place, but we don’t know.
Other work includes an educational interactive film called Life Saver (2013) which was nominated for a BAFTA and can still be viewed online at: life-saver.org.uk. Ridley was originally repped by Jonathan Arun, until August 2014 when she signed with UTA, (only lasting two months). In October 2015 when she signed with CAA. At the time of her Star Wars casting, the Arun website said the actress’ ‘playing age’ is 16 to 20.
Daisy was due to have a role in The Inbetweeners 2 (2014), but her scenes have since been re-shot with a different actress, due to Ridley’s busy schedule with Star Wars Episode VII.
“We’ve cut her out of the film,” co-creator Iain Morris told Yahoo! Movies.
“She [was] in the opening of the film. We reshot the opening because the script didn’t work. We desperately wanted Daisy to come back and do it because she’s brilliant, really funny. But by that point she was doing Star Wars.”
Co-writer Damon Beesley added. “She wasn’t available because of Star Wars contractual commitments. She wanted to do it… She’s brilliant and she’ll be a huge star.”
Daisy made her feature film debut in the a British indie horror film ‘Scrawl (2015), which has postponed its release until after Star Wars: in order to generate more awareness for the low budget film. In August 2015 Daisy lent her voice to Studio Ghibli’s English dub release of ‘Only Yesterday’, as Taeko. Daisy said “I am completely in love with Japan, and with Ghibli films, so can hardly believe I get to be a small part of this wonderful film!”. The movie will be released early 2016 to coincide with the film’s 25th anniversary.
Its rumored that Daisy Ridley will join Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro in Joy (2015). A story based on the life of a struggling Long Island single mom who became one of the country’s most successful entrepreneurs.
